Royal Danish Theatre

Learning Through The Arts

The Royal Danish Theater produces operas, ballets, plays, and concerts. KGL+ is the development department of The Royal Danish Theatre. The department is responsible for the theatre’s ambitious children’s strategy. In a rapidly changing world, there is a need for creative and playful adults who can cope with the changes that will constantly confront us. We believe that children’s lives and well-being are enhanced by active involvement in the world of play and art – and we need children who thrive, develop, take responsibility, invent things, have confidence in themselves and each other, and who feel that they have a valuable place in the world and not least something to give to it. The Royal Theatre’s dream is that all children can retain their imagination, curiosity, and desire to play.

Aims:
We aim to create and deliver performances in a highly artistic and relevant manner for diverse and growing audiences inside and outside the three houses and throughout the country. In KGL+ we further aim to involve new audiences through new artistic formats where learning, expression and dialogue are center stage.

A flagship project:
In the winter of 2026, we will open a “performing arts experience universe” in the old theater building “Stærekassen” located in the main square of Copenhagen, Kongens Nytorv. Play, imagination and creativity are at the center here, and here you can engage in symphonic music, opera, plays and ballet.

Why we’re RESEO members:
It is essential to exchange knowledge and experience with colleagues across borders. The field is changing continuously and there is a great value in sharing concepts and visions.
