Opera with a twist!
Figaros is an independent touring theatre and opera company founded in 2005 by singer and actor Hans Dueholm. In 2020 the company created Mini-Figaros, which produces opera/music theatre for children. The company is led by Birgitte Holt Nielsen, who for more than 20 years was synonymous with opera for children at Danish National Opera (Den Jyske Opera). Alongside young audience productions, the new department, Kulturcentralen, offers education-and outreach activities for all age groups.
Aims:
The main aim of Figaros is to offer professional, unconventional, playful, comedy-based music theatre in formats that are able to travel and encounter audiences of all ages and backgrounds, wherever they may be. Performances are always based on live music, and well-known classical opera, theatre, musical literature and film titles provide material for new creations.
Respectful respectlessness guides our choices when dealing with great works of art.
A flagship project:
Tinderbox (or the story of how granddad won the princess and the kingdom)
Music theatre for kids 4-9 years based on the fairy tale of Hans Christian Andersen but in a very free version.
Why we’re RESEO members:
As a long-standing member of RESEO at Danish National Opera (Den Jyske Opera), it is a natural choice for Birgitte as Figaros’ new producer, librettist, workshop leader to bring Figaros into the RESEO community in order to benefit from the opportunities of sharing and inspiring meetings with international colleagues.
