Glyndebourne

Opening Hearts and Minds to Opera
Glyndebourne is recognised internationally as one of the great opera houses; a reputation that stems from a passion for artistic excellence encapsulated in founder John Christie’s insistence on doing ‘not the best we can do but the best that can be done anywhere’. Today Glyndebourne is a year-round operation. The Festival runs from May to August with an Autumn programme running from October to December. A widely respected Learning & Engagement programme is active year round.
Aims:
Founded in 1934 by John Christie and his opera singer wife, Audrey Mildmay, Glyndebourne is committed to presenting opera of the highest quality, commissioning new work, developing new talent and reaching new audiences. Crucially, Glyndebourne has remained financially independent since 1934.
A flagship project:
At Glyndebourne we have been sharing opera with our local community, see some examples of this here. We also work extensively with our Glyndebourne Youth Opera: see our work here.
Why they’re RESEO members:
RESEO events and projects provide a wonderful combination of theory and practice, and the network provides access to a rich conversation between artists from across Europe.
