Celebrating community through music

Clytha-2.jpg

Operasonic is a community music charity based in and working for the people of Newport, South Wales. Our vision is of a diverse community who come together through story and music to create, celebrate, and grow.

Operasonic exists to inspire people to access, develop and share their creativity through music so that everyone living, working or arriving in our city knows they are a welcome and valued part of Newport life and of Welsh Culture.

Aims

We have developed the following aims which form the core of the work for the coming years:

  • To support the next generation of emerging music professionals and creatives in Newport to have fulfilling and sustainable careers
  • To open up the rich world of music to children, young people and their families of all backgrounds, cultures and communities within Newport
  • To celebrate our city and create imaginative creative experiences to enrich the lives of the citizens of Newport
  • To champion Newport across Wales and the world

A flagship project:
Lullaby Project

We are a partners with Carnegie Hall in New York and deliver Lullaby Projects in different settings across South Wales. In 2023 we developed the Silent Lullaby project, exploring how to create lullabies with Deaf parents and children. We’ve worked with a wide range of Deaf artists in this process.

Why they’re RESEO members:
RESEO facilitates us to reach out across Europe and make strong connections with other countries and organisations. We have already benefited so much from our connections through the network, discovering new practices, finding partners for projects, and being inspired by other artists.
