RESEO, the European network for opera music and dance education

In 1996, the European network of opera, dance and music education was founded to create a supportive network for opera education professionals in Europe, whose work was at the time little-understood and who often found themselves relegated to a secondary position within their own organisations. Twenty-five years later, education departments are standard in European opera houses as well as in multidisciplinary theatres, and no longer exclusively target young audiences but have developed a holistic approach to all communities they are surrounded by. This article by Theresa Schmitz focuses on the network’s history, its specific approach and the challenges of today.
