Opera Ballet Vlaanderen

Opera Ballet Vlaanderen – OBV – is based on three pillars: Opera, Ballet, and VONK. Together, they present opera, ballet, concerts, and music theater as contemporary and living art forms. Through its platform VONK, it runs participatory, educational, and co-creative programmes that connect artistic practice with diverse communities across Antwerp and Ghent.

Empowering one another and others to be innovative and creative. Being proud to make a unique contribution that allows our colleagues and OBV to grow, and so, together, to bring opera and ballet to new heights. Inspiration is what makes OBV an exciting and powerful story.

PIONEER

Exploring new pathways. Critically pushing the boundaries of our artistic domains. Daring to be different from the established houses. Our goal as an organisation is to become stronger and better and to constantly pursue growth, development and innovation.

PLAY TOGETHER

Connecting with each other and our environment by showing solidarity and caring. Active listening and transparent communication as a step towards sustainable collaboration. Our strength lies in diversity and a multiplicity of voices. Tradition and innovation are the starting points for offering opera and dance in a spirit of generosity, and for sparking enthusiasm for art and artistic experience.

A flagship project

Barzakh Thomas Bellinck and Osama Abdulrasol, in collaboration with people living in detention

Barzakh is a co-created opera project with people in Belgian prisons, exploring parallels between pre-trial detention and the liminal state of the soul awaiting judgment.
