A First Look at “Aida” With Scuola InCanto

7 February, 2018

Associazione Musicale Europa InCanto introduces children aged 4 to 13 to the magical world of the theater, aiming to create new audiences, aware of the heritage of opera and capable of truly appreciating it.

“Scuola InCanto” provides teachers and students instruments for a genuine approach to the world of opera by helping and supporting them through the study of a selected title. The current season is focused on analysing and staging Aida by Giuseppe Verdi, one of the most remarkable titles in the history of the Opera.

Teachers and their students are involved in a dynamic educational process, based on learning and internalizing the different aspects of opera, transforming it into a moment of
fun and sharing. The project starts with workshops held in the patner theaters, in which experts from Europa InCanto help teachers in learning the selected tracks. Teachers then transmit the knowledge to their students through participation in workshops and music sessions. The process is supported by educational tools handed out to each participant. Among these there are an engaging text-book and an interactive karaoke DVD, thanks to which students are able to practice by themselves.

To conclude the project, an adapted performance of Aida is staged in Europa InCanto partner theatres. Students actively participate on the stage throughout the whole performance alongside professional opera singers, an orchestra and conductor. To involve them even further, they create their own costumes and props.
