Meet the winners of the 2019 RESEO Prize for Best Opera!

2 October, 2019

RESEO are delighted to announce the winner of the 2019 Prize for Best Opera, awarded in partnership with Jeunesses Musicales International!

Congratulations to Umculo (Germany / South Africa) who won their second ever YAMaward yesterday! Romeo’s Passion, the winning production, is a one-hour chamber opera for five singers, oboe, violin, and piano; the story of a young man who is engaged to be married but loves another. He and the man he loves must find the courage to face their own truths.

Composer Cathy Milliken and librettist Robert Lehmeier embarked upon this coming-out story four years ago via a series of creative workshops with adult and youth choirs in South Africa’s North West and Gauteng provinces.

Congratulations also to RESEO members Glyndebourne, who won the brand new Best Participatory project for Young Audiences with Agreed.
