About the event

Growing Audiences from the Beginning

The audiences of tomorrow are closer than we think — some of them are still in pushchairs. This year’s Education & Outreach Forum brings together education and outreach professionals from opera companies across Europe to explore one of the most vital and rewarding challenges in our field: how do we introduce opera to the very youngest audiences, and how do we nurture that relationship as they grow?

Over three days in Como, we’ll share research, exchange practice, and ask honest questions about how we create meaningful work for babies, toddlers, and young children — and how we sustain the audiences we build. From the artistic value of programming for young audiences to the practicalities of running education departments, we’ll learn from each other’s successes, structures, and experiments.

And uniquely this year, delegates will have the opportunity to experience two live productions first-hand — including Opera Baby, a performance designed for the very youngest listeners from six to thirty-six months, and Piccolo Orso e la Montagna di Ghiaccio, a new civic family opera addressing the melting of glaciers.
