Festival d’Aix-en-Provence

As part of its commitment to making art and culture more accessible, and in the firm belief that the future of opera must be prepared as of today, the Festival d’Aix set up Passerelles – its socio-artistic and education departments.
Their initiatives aim to include a younger and more diverse audience in the life of the Festival, and offer them an opportunity to experience opera. Constantly evolving, Passerelles aims to be an innovative laboratory that has been enriched over the years by a number of exchanges in which teachers and school partners, community associations and social stakeholders, artist-educators, participants and teams of the Festival all play an active part.
The education department works with teachers and pupils from primary school through to high school, as well as students in further and higher education, and seeks to adapt its actions to each audience.
The socio-artistic department works with associations and professionals from the social, medical, educational and cultural sectors, to reach audiences from different generations who, for mainly economic, social reasons or of reduced autonomy, happen to be isolated from the artistic and cultural proposals held in their neighboring surroundings. It focuses on building bridges between professionals and amateurs and bringing together participants around the works scheduled for performance during the Festival, by using multiple entries to encourage a personal and creative appropriation of the operas by the participants.
