Holland Opera is based in Amersfoort (Utrecht) and is one of the arts companies of the Netherlands.

Holland Opera is Europe’s first independent youth opera company. It functions as a pioneer for the genre, both nationally and internationally. Opera houses throughout Europe (Germany, Denmark and others) program youth opera productions of Holland Opera annually.

Holland Opera is known for their large location-opera’s (parking garage, factories, several museums and at the big fortress at the Rijnauwen estate)

Aims:

We are convinced that music is the universal language through which children and adults are stimulated to watch, listen and communicate. Therefore, we want to start live dialogues, in a world where most interactions and conversations happen digitally. This is how we reach our audience’s souls, through music that moves, enchants, and surprises. In our opera’s, we use language in a poetic way, we compress it and get to its core. Our music tells its own separate story in different musical idioms, which layers the structure of our productions. We make opera’s that are accessible and topical, and that shed light on current social theme’s to which our (young) audience can relate.

A flagship project:

Reinaert de V.

The satirical animal story is translated into a climate court case in which the ‘equals’ are tempted to corruption, in which the youth rise up against the old guard. A multimedia family performance with puppeteers and dancers from Duda Paiva Company, musicians from the New European Ensemble and singers from Holland Opera.
