Opera For All
The Opera Grand Avignon is a publicly-run institution with two locations: an 850-seat opera house in Avignon and a 400-seat hall, L’Autre Scène, in Vedène. We offer an eclectic opera, dance, theatre and symphonic concert programme and a Ballet of 12 dancers and a Choir of 20 artists.
Aims:
The Opera should be a place where spectators, and in particular young audiences, can find personal growth, entertainment, the possibility to expand their sensitive intelligence, learn to question things and develop a critical eye on the world.
A flagship project:
The Maîtrise Populaire de l’Opéra Grand Avignon is a 3-year project designed to immerse pupils from the city’s disadvantaged neighbourhoods in choral singing, with weekly workshops in schools. Each year a concert is organised at the Opéra. For the third and final year, the children of the Maîtrise Populaire, the ONAP, DEMOS and the Opera choir and choirmasters will be performing in the Cour d’Honneur of the Palais des Papes to celebrate this partnership and the Opera’s bicentenary. Matteo Franceschini has composed CANTATA for this celebration.
Why we’re RESEO members:
To build bridges between different opera houses.
