Mind the Gap research report

27 February, 2023

The Mind the Gap research report presents 10 key issues for working digitally with disadvantaged communities, reflects upon the responsibilities of arts organisations and offers recommendations for institutions looking to implement online participatory projects.

This report is based upon a literature review of existing research into digital inclusion and exclusion and the use of digital technologies in the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCIs). It furthermore draws upon interviews with organisations and freelance educators delivering online arts education activities and a Europe-wide survey implemented in late 2021. This report aims to provide creative and cultural organisations and policymakers with an analysis of existing barriers to digital participation and actionable recommendations for enabling inclusion.

About the Mind the Gap project

An international research project funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Commission, Mind the Gap: Building Digital Bridges to Community was powered by a consortium of six European arts and culture organisations from 2021 to 2023. The project was led by RESEO – European Network for Opera, Music and Dance Education (Belgium) in partnership with Garsington Opera (United Kingdom), Irish National Opera (Ireland), Les Clés de l’écoute (France), Materahub (Italy) and the Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (Norway).
